Vintage French
enamel guilloche compact "M"
This
gorgeous vintage guilloche French enamel compact has
a dainty hand painted pink rose in the center of the
yellow enamel lid with 4 clusters of leaves and smaller
pink roses along the border. The back is painted black
enamel (not guilloche).
The
inside has several little compartments. The metal mirror
in excellent condition lifts to expose the rouge cake
and original puff. The other side is gold toned metal
with a tiny geometric design pressed into it, and has
a fan-shaped lid in the center which lifts to reveal
the powder well. At the top edge of the mirror at the
hinge is a manufacturer's mark, a tiny diamond shape
enclosing and M. The lid and compartments all close
securely. The enamel is in good condition with no chips,
scratches or dings or discolorations. The black paint
on the has some missing bits along the front edge under
the location of the mechanism that opens the compact.

Cornflower
blue guilloche French enamel compact
This
is the one you’ve been waiting for! Both the front
and back of this compact have French enamel in the most
luscious cornflower blue you’ve ever seen. The lid
has a narrow black border around a center of white French
enamel with a hand painted bride’s basket of tiny
pink roses and even tinier blue flowers and is bordered
by swags of greenery with more tiny pink roses. The original
metal finger chain is still attached, and is made of large
flat links with painted black enamel insets.
When
you open the lid, a round spring-load mirror slides
up to reveal a rouge cake and puff on one side, and
a pressed powder cake and puff on the other. Both the
rouge and powder cakes appear to be original and are
still useable, the puffs also appear to be original.
It is 2-1/8" in diameter, the chain is 2-1/2"
long.
The
only flaws I could find on this piece are a few very
faint surface scuffs on the back of the compact, and
wear on the front at the top where the chain attaches
– it is approximately 3/4" long, and follows
the curve of the edge. It lighter in color than the
rest of the enamel and feels a bit rough on the outer
margins of the discolorations, so I would call this
a chip in the enamel. The white speck showing on the
back of the compact is from dust on my scanner, there
is NO spot there on the compact. I could find no manufacturer’s
mark, but there is a patent mark, “Pat.9-21-26”.

Lovely round
guilloche French enamel compact
This
round guilloche French enamel compact is so sweet. The
cover has handpainted pink roses on a soft yellow enamel
background, bordered by an embossed rim. The back is machine
turned metal. The inside has a mirror and the original
rouge on one side, and the original puff and some of the
original powder on the other. The lid closes securely.
Unmarked, made of base metal. The enamel is in very good
condition; the bottom of this compact shows slight scuff
marks, but this does not detract from the beauty of this
little treasure ID=Powder42

Blue Guilloche Enamel Miniature Compact
This
sweet little compact features guilloche enamel in a
vivid sky blue color. It has its original powder puff
and mirror. The link on top is marked 925S, but I could
find no mark on the compact itself– it may be
silver. The compact is circa 1920’s and measures
1 3/8” in diameter.
It is in excellent vintage condition. I have inspected
the compact with my loupe and can find no damage to
the enamel, e.g. chips or flakes. The lid closes securely.
The puff and mirror are also in wonderful condition.
The compact has a gold wash on the inside, below where
the powder puff is located, with a nice patina. I believe
this would polish nicely, but I will let the new owner
make that decision. This would look great on a silver
chain and since the lid closes so well, it could also
be used to for pills, etc. ID=Powder44

Antique French
Bronze Guilloche Enamel Pill Patch Box
1900-1940 Here's a nice vintage european pill box from
the 1920's. Enameled lid depicts a Josephine Baker type
flapper dancing imposed on a sea foam colored guilloche
wave design. Hinged lid works perfectly. Box is made of
bronze and is unmarked. Small in size, a quarter fits
inside perfectly. Cannot find a manufacture's mark. There
is a black mirrored piece of glass on the underside of
the lid. Measues 1/14" across by 1/2" high.
Jazz Age ! No chips, cracks or repairs. Gauranteed authentic
and as described. ID=POWDER45

ANTIQUE
LAMODE R&G SILVER GUILLOCHE ENAMEL COMPACT
Exquisite rouge compact made by Ripley & Gowen (R
& G CO) and marked LaMode. It is sterling silver
and is so marked on the back. It is guilloche enamel.
The top is decorated
with elegant roses in shades of pink and tiny blue flowers
surrounded by green leaves. The background of this art
work is white. The compact measures 2 1/4" x 2
1/4". The frame of the top is handsomely decorated
with black enamel. This design is also on the back of
the piece. There are no scratches to the enamel or the
glass on the top of the compact.
The sides are also
decorated elaborately.
The chain from
which the compact hangs has a tiny enamel piece about
half way between the finger ring and the compact. I
have tried to capture this in a photo. There is a lovely
delicate design in this tiny enamel piece (measures
7/16").
The back shows
some wear. The back is appears to be engraved with a
circle and then a bow with two branches with leaves
inside.
Opening the piece,
the hinge is in good condition and the clasp is perfect.
The mirror shows very little aging. The original rouge
applicator is inside. There is a small knob inside that
moves a metal piece to expose an plain opening, a sifting
opening and a closed setting.
This
piece belonged to the estate of a friend and I know
it dates back to the 1930's. Perhaps it's older. It
is an exquisite piece with very little wear.

Jeweled / Musical Powder Box
- OLD
slot for powder and slot for lipstick!
At first glance you will think that this is a jewelry
box - then you realize that it is musical (the key is
still with it!) and then you open it and you find that
it holds a lipstick and a powder! - a fantastic dresser
item! approx 3 1/4" tall - the top has a middle
green jewel surrounded by 4 smaller green jewels and
4 "pearls" - in excellent condition - alas
both the original lipstick and puff is gone - There
is a Hobigant France stamp on the underside of the round
powder holder, but the jeweled Brass looks to me to
be made in Czechoslovakia. ID=Powder47
